We offer three superb study options to choose from – Distance, Live Virtual and In-Person.

And you can access your course and the Learner Success team as soon as you enrol: just log on to our website or mobile app and enjoy immediate access.

Distance

Home study.

You will:

  • Complete as home study the online course material, online theory assessments, and portfolio (before performing the practical assessment).
  • Complete the 20-hour practicum/work experience requirement of the course where you observe a qualified exercise to music instructor in a professional fitness environment; for example, in a health club.
  • Submit via our Help Desk evidence of your completed practicum/work experience using the documents provided in the online course material.
  • Film the practical assessment in a professional fitness environment (for which you’ll need a minimum of six participants).
  • Submit via our Help Desk a video of your practical assessment and a copy of your completed portfolio.
  • As an alternative to submitting a video of your practical assessment, for an additional fee you can either book onto and attend an In-Person assessment held on a scheduled Exercise to Music assessment day to which you’ll bring three participants and hand in a copy of your completed portfolio, or you can book onto and perform a Live Virtual assessment at a bespoke time and date that you arrange with us and for which you’ll have six participants with you and submit in advance via our Help Desk a copy of your completed portfolio.

Live Virtual

Home study plus a practical, tutor-led Exercise to Music Live Virtual clinic that you participate in at home. This clinic is conducted in real-time and is not a pre-recorded video.

You will:

  • Book onto a scheduled Exercise to Music Live Virtual clinic (generally three consecutive weekends). View dates.
  • Download our app onto your mobile device and have that device with you during both the Live Virtual clinic and practical assessment to access the assessment music tracks (via the app). Please familiarise yourself with the corresponding assessment video tracks.
  • Complete as home study the online course material, online theory assessments, and specific sections of the portfolio.
  • Complete the Exercise to Music Live Virtual clinic you’ve booked onto.
  • Film the practical assessment in a professional fitness setting e.g. your health club’s studio (for which you’ll need a minimum of six participants).
  • Submit via our Help Desk a video of your practical assessment and a copy of your completed portfolio.

Recognition

You will achieve the relevant Focus Awards Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Exercise to Music) qualification upon successful completion of the Exercise to Music course, the certificate for which will be issued by the awarding organisation.

The Exercise course is also recognised by CIMSPA and meets the criteria for official American College of Sports Medicine Approved Provider status◊.

Prerequisites

No prior fitness qualification is required before starting one of our Exercise to Music Instructor courses.

A basic level of English and Math is necessary to understand the course content.

The course requires physical exertion and individual participation is mandatory, therefore a degree of physical fitness is necessary. Relevant personal experience of exercise to music is helpful. For example, prior participation in group exercise classes will be helpful for our ETM courses.
