Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral

Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral

During this part of your group exercise to music course you will learn about the human body, the way it moves and it's composure. This includes learning muscles, actions, energy systems and bones. You will also learn about how each of these can affect a persons health and typical problems that may occur.

Having studied the issues at hand you will then learn how to give clients relevant and specific advice about how to counter their condition. This includes establishing dietary requirements and helping them implement changes to their eating habits.

An important aspect of the GP & Exercise Referral course is learning professional practice of how to go about communicating with medical professionals and working alongside them with a client. During this module you will learn the requirements and best practices of this process.

As a trainer qualified in exercise referral you will be working with clients who may suffer with any of the following conditions:

  • Hypertension
  • Hypercholesterolaemia
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
  • Asthma
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes (Type 1 and 2)
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Osteoporosis
  • Depression
  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Simple mechanical back pain
  • Joint Replacement

As part of your course you will learn about each of these conditions and how they affect the human body.

Taking into consideration what you have learnt about specific health conditions, combined with your knowledge or exercise programming, you will learn how to put it all together and create programmes specifically designed for referred clients.

Communicating the issues clearly and sensitively is the back bone of working with clients who have medical conditions. This module will provide you with the tools to be firm but also conscientious to ensure the experience is always a positive one.

Our exercise referral course is accredited by YMCA Awards, and once you’ve successfully completed the course you’ll be awarded the Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral. This qualification is recognised by REPs in the UK and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

All TRAINFITNESS courses are managed via our online learning portal. A main feature of the portal is the Student Desktop which you’ll gain access to as soon as you’ve enrolled. Through it you can view your online course material, book onto the course days and assessment day, and watch the relevant recorded audiovisual eClasses~.

Using the TRAINFITNESS app you can also do all of this on the move via the Mobile Student Desktop. The app is compatible with Apple iOS 8.1 and above and Android Jellybean (4.2.2) and above, and of course you’ll need wireless internet connection*.

The exercise referral course is delivered via distance study. You’ll work through the online course material, complete the portfolio, and book onto and attend the relevant scheduled assessment day. You’ll submit the portfolio on the assessment day.

Before you can request the qualification certificate, you must satisfy and complete all course requirements. This includes, for example, the online course material which you will complete in your own time and outside of any attendance requirements.

There’s no guarantee that any course will be offered for more than two (2) years from the date you enrol, so you need to make sure you complete the course within this time frame.

*Devices, manufacturers and operating systems are subject to change
~If applicable to the course you enrol on

You’ll need to book onto a scheduled assessment day on which you’ll hand in your portfolio, sit your theory exam and perform your practical assessment. You need to bring a client with you for the practical assessment, unless you arrange with us beforehand to submit a video for the practical assessment (for which you’ll also need a client). Conditions and additional fees apply to the video option, so please call the Learner Support team for more information. See the Assessments tab for assessment dates to choose from.

A basic level of English and Maths will be necessary to understand the content, and you’ll hold a level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing qualification or equivalent.

There are two payment options available for our exercise referral course:

eClasses – We offer a library of eClasses on a variety of topics covered in your personal trainer course, during which we go over content and answer questions you might have about it. The library can be found in your Student Desktop, where an eClass can be viewed at the click of a button.

Feedback Service – During your exercise referral course you’ll be assessed in various ways, including via portfolio, and theory and practical assessments. You’re able to send us a video of what you intend to do for your practical assessment and or what you intend to submit as your portfolio beforehand and one of our qualified assessors will provide detailed feedback, both on areas you've done well in and areas that could use improvement. You just need to do this at least two weeks prior to the due date of the assessment or the submission date of the portfolio. Additional fees apply.

Optional Training Day – If you would like extra help or guidance with your course, we have training days scheduled around the country which you can book onto and attend. These days are held on two consecutive weekdays, two consecutive Saturdays, or two consecutive Sundays. Please contact Learner Support for more information. Training days are optional, therefore they’re not included in your course, nor in the cost of your course. Additional charges apply.
