During our Children’s Fitness course you will cover anatomy and physiology, how to maintain health, safety and welfare in a variety of fitness environments, how to teach fitness to kids, as well as the skills and knowledge to plan and deliver safe, effective exercise and physical activity for children aged 5-15 inclusive.
We offer this course via distance study, allowing you to slot study in with the rest of your life. This course meets the criteria for official ACSM Approved Provider status◊. Upon successful completion you’ll be eligible to join the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at level 2.

Yes – by REPs, ACSM and CIMSPA.
The Children’s Fitness course is delivered via distance study. You’ll complete as home study the online course material and portfolio consisting of worksheets, two video practical assessments and session planning. You’ll also complete 10 hours of practicum where you observe a qualified children’s fitness instructor in a commercial facility. You’ll submit the practicum evidence before the assessment day (if applicable to you) and submit your portfolio along with your video assessments.
If you’ve not already successfully completed the Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing mandatory units with a previous qualification, you’ll need to book onto and attend a relevant scheduled Saturday assessment day to complete two multiple choice exams. If you have successfully completed those mandatory units, there are no attendance requirements.
Learner Support – You’ll have access to our Learner Support team who can assist you with study questions and queries. The team is generally available via phone, email or through the Help Desk Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm; and Saturday and Sunday 11am to 4pm GMT, excluding bank holidays and office closures.
eClasses – We offer a library of eClasses on a variety of topics covered in your course, during which we go over content and answer questions you might have about it. Once enrolled, the library can be found under My Account on our website.
You need to have a basic level of English and Maths to understand the content.
There are no prerequisite qualifications for our Children’s Fitness course; however, if you already hold a Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing qualification (either Gym or Exercise to Music), you may be eligible for exemptions from certain parts of the course.
